The silent Christian secession
The title of Andrew Torba’s blog, The Silent Christian Secession, caught my attention because I have thought that type of action was long overdue.
So, when the founder of social media platform Gab addressed the topic, I felt compelled to read it and I’m glad I did. It was refreshing to know there was a least one other person who felt that, as Christians, we need our own economy that is completely separate from “the world.”
Torba and Gab were forced into taking action after more than 25 business partners stopped associating with the company. That included the Apple Store, Google Play, PayPal, dozens of payment processors, hosting providers, email services and others.
What horrendous things did Torba do? He believes in freedom of speech, which is a very dangerous ideal in a world that succumbed to political correctness and is fearful of the cancel culture.
“When this happens I rejoice and praise God because I know that He is working to separate the wheat from the chaff. This deplatforming inevitably reforms Gab into an even more resilient community, business and platform. We don’t just sit around and whine when these things happen, we immediately get to work. We aren’t victims, we are builders,” he wrote.
“Personally I don’t believe the common Christian mantra to ‘be in the world, but not of the world’ means giving the enemy our money, time and data. This has got to stop, right now,” he added.
I almost fell out of my chair!
I had never heard of Torba before and I heard of Gab only in passing as an alternative to Facebook. I created an account a few months ago simply so that I could secure the @GregGerber username. But, according to the mainstream media, Gab is a platform to be avoided at all costs:
- Wikipedia refers to Gab as “an American alt-tech social networking service known for its far-right userbase.”
- CNN calls Gab “an alternative social media network popular with conservatives, the alt-right and some extremists.”
- The Washington Post noted, “Since its inception, Gab has welcomed deplatformed social media users, generally attracting those on the far right.”
- According to NPR, “The site features memes mocking Democrats and liberal causes, conspiratorial musings and messages stoking the baseless idea that the election was stolen from Trump.”
- The Huffington Post referred to Rob Monster, the CEO of Epik, one of Gab’s primary tech partners, as a “Bible-thumping tech CEO who’s proud of keeping neo-Nazis online.”
- MSN doesn’t like the fact that “Gab markets itself as a vehicle for free speech and doesn’t crack down on posts that would be considered hateful or containing false information.” In other words, Gab doesn’t shut off voices that MSN objects to, which greatly irks our media and tech overlords.
If the previous two years have taught me anything, it’s this: If YouTube bans it, Facebook blocks it, Twitter removes it and the mainstream media mocks it, then the information is probably worth reviewing.
Apparently Christians are now equated with neo-Nazis because we believe unborn babies have a right to life, believe that people are born either male or female, and support a traditional definition of marriage as involving one man and one woman.
Many of the media sites recall that Gab was knocked offline a few years ago after a single user had posted anti-Semitic information on the platform before opening fire in a synagogue and killing 11 people. So the entire platform was eliminated on the account of one deranged user. Imagine if that standard was applied to every TV station and social media platform today.
In his blog, Torba cited Jesus’ own words recorded in John 15:19:
“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.”
The more I read Torba’s blog, the more I grew to like the man and his Christian ideals — opinions that are considered “hate speech” today.
“I am in the process of transitioning every part of my financial expenses to support Christian businesses, Christian media companies, Christian content creators, and Christian people,” he wrote. “I am done giving my money to The Enemy and funding the destruction of our country and values. I encourage everyone else to do the same. If they are not serving God, they are serving Satan and I’m simply not going to fund that activity.
“It’s not about simply building our own social networking platforms anymore, it’s about building our own Christian economy. One without cancel culture,” he added.
Amen!
There is no longer any question in my mind that Christianity will soon be declared illegal in America. Yes, churches will be allowed to operate, but only as the “opium of the masses” as the father of Communism, Karl Marx, so famously called it. As long as pastors stick to the mind-numbing “feel good” messages of love, tolerance and acceptance, they’ll be permitted to preach.
But, once a pastor preaches of sin, the need for repentance, and a higher standard than living simply to please one’s self, then watch out. His voice will be silenced. His platform eliminated. He will likely be jailed and condemned as an “unperson.”
According to George Orwell’s book 1984, an unperson is “vaporized” or completely erased from society and existence. An unperson would be taken out of books, photographs and articles so that no trace of him or her could be found in the present anywhere. No record of that individual would be allowed to exist at all. In fact, it would be considered a thoughtcrime to even say an unperson’s name or think of unpeople.
Deplatforming people who believe in Christian ideals or traditional American values is just the first step.
This weekend, I will be expanding my presence on Gab and following Andrew Torba’s lead in working to build and support a Christian economy. My goal is to create a directory of companies and people that support those values as well.
Revelation 13 warns there will come a time when people will need to declare their loyalty to antichrist in order to buy or sell anything. A separate Christian economy will be essential someday. It’s time to start building it.
